Spring, 2005
Dear Soccer Families:
As you can imagine, the growing popularity of soccer in Stamford, and the resultant surge in the number of players, have brought with them a major increase in the workload required to ensure that each season, clinic, camp and training runs as smoothly as possible. As the League grows, our need for volunteers grows with it.
While we need volunteers for more positions than those listed below, there are several key volunteer positions we need to fill immediately. (You can complete our simple on-line Volunteer Form at any time.) We ask that you look over the following position descriptions and say "Yes!" to helping out:
Volunteers Coordinator
This job entails helping the League to identify and recruit individuals to help with a host of volunteer needs: picture day, coaching, managing, mailing, filing, phone calls
the list goes on. The Coordinator will be tasked with scanning registration forms to identify potential volunteers, and making contact to secure those volunteers.
Communications Coordinator
This person will regularly monitor the Leagues voice mail and email, responding whenever possible and forwarding messages to League officials when required. It is anticipated that, as this volunteer becomes more familiar with League operations, this Coordinator will be able to handle an increasing number of inquiries without further referral.
Registrar(s)
This person will be responsible for ensuring the accurate input of all player, coach and insurance data, and for generating the reports required from the input data. The League maintains database software which is easy to learn and requires only minimal experience with spreadsheet and/or database entry.
Sponsorship Coordinator
Working with historical records and with registration forms, this position generates sponsorship solicitations/billing, ensuring that we maintain as many existing sponsors as possible while constantly finding new sponsors. This job will also entail one-time mailings of team photos to seasonal sponsors.
Webmaster
Here, familiarity with web site maintenance is a must. The Webmaster will receive update information from various league officials and post it to the website as promptly as possible. The filling of this position is critical if we are to make our web site a rich resource for all manner of League, rosters, schedules, rules, announcements and the like.
While our ideal volunteer would agree to take any of these positions for at least a year, we would consider those who can only commit to one season at a time. We would also work with pairs or trios of volunteers who wish to work together to fill a single post, taking full responsibility for the position as a group.
While some business associated with each volunteer role is done on a year-round basis, the vast majority of the time commitment comes just before, and just after, the start of each new season. We will be happy to discuss each position with you more fully, giving you more detail about the nature of the assignment and our best estimate as to the sort of time commitment it entails.
Please, the continued success of Stamford Youth Soccer depends on your help. Without volunteers in these key positions the League cannot be expected to operate to the standard our soccer families deserve.

Thanks, and have a great spring season!
Sincerely,
Stamford Youth Soccer League
