Travel Coach Selection

The Selection of Travel/Premier Managers, Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Trainers

The selection as a manager, coach, assistant coach and/or trainer for an SYSL travel or premier team is a privilege, not a right.  In other words, SYSL is not obligated to accept as a manager, coach, assistant coach and/or trainer anyone who submits their name for the position. The selection of a manager, coach, assistant coach and/or trainer for SYSL’s travel and premier teams will be performed by the SYSL travel committee.  The members of the committee are SYSL’s league president, SYSL’s travel commissioner and SYSL’s league director.

In deciding whether or not to approve the selection of a candidate as a manager, coach, assistant coach or trainer, the travel committee may take into account the candidate’s: (1) experience, (2) personality, (3) personal conduct, (4) ability to interact positively with the league, parents and players, (5) ability to follow rules including SYSL’s rules, SWD’s rules and CJSA’s rules, (6) affiliation with any other club, travel or premier program; (7) passing CJSA’s criminal background check and (8) any other factor  that the travel committee deems relevant to the process.  The relative weight given to these factors is left to the discretion of the travel committee.

Any candidate that is rejected by the travel committee as a manager, coach, assistant coach and/or trainer may seek reconsideration of the decision by submitting, in writing, to the travel committee a request for reconsideration and any information about their qualifications that they believe should be considered by the travel committee.  The request for reconsideration should be submitted to SYSL’s travel commissioner.  Whether or not to reconsider the decision rejecting a candidate is left to the discretion of the travel committee.  The decision of the travel committee as to a manager, coach, assistant coach and/or trainer is final.
