U8 Travel Soccer Teams being formed - Monday, February 24, 2014

The Stamford Youth Soccer League is pleased to announce the formation of a U8 program that will act as a transition from the house program to the travel program for certain select U8 boys and girls (players born between August 1, 2005 and July 31, 2006).  U7 boys and girls will be considered for the U8 select teams if they are of exceptional ability.

During the Fall season, Stamford Youth Soccer League with the assistance of the Quality Touch Soccer Academy will identify 11 to 14 boys and 11 to 14 girls to form a U8 Boys and U8 Girls select team.  The selected players will be invited to begin training with a Quality Touch coach one day a week in addition to their training with their house team as well as playing with their house teams.  Training will take place from approximately the beginning of October through the middle of November.

Beginning in the winter, the U8 boys select team and the U8 girls select team will be offered winter training sessions on the same basis as the travel teams.  Players on the U8 boys select team and U8 girls select team will also be allowed to play in the indoor house program.

In the Spring, the U8 boys select team and the U8 girls select team will train twice a week with Quality Touch. The team will also be permitted to play friendly games against other U8 teams and will be allowed to play in a tournament during the spring.

During the Spring, players on the U8 boys select team and U8 girls select team will not be permitted to play in the house league and will not be permitted to play or train with any other soccer program except for programs offered by Quality Touch Soccer Academy or if approval is granted by the league president.

SYSL will provide the players on the U8 boys select team and U8 girls select team with a travel uniform, which must be returned to the league if the player leaves the program for any reason.

SYSL will pay for a portion of the training fees for the U8 select teams during the fall and spring, but not the winter training.
