Protect Stamford's Youth & Adult Nonprofit Sports Leagues!!!! - Thursday, May 14, 2015
Stamford's nonprofit youth sports leagues are under determined pressure from business sponsored youth sports for-profit organizations.Their goal is to be given permits for athletic fields on school property.
In this effort they are being strongly supported by the Facilities Director of the Board of Education, the Operations Director of the City of Stamford and members of the Mayor's office.
They are opposed by a broad coalition of Stamford youth sports nonprofit organizations, Stamford adult nonprofit sports organizations, many members of the Stamford Board of Representatives and many unaffiliated Stamford taxpayers who believe that the athletic fields which we all support with our taxes should not go to the highest corporate bidder....especially when few if any Stamford residents are on the teams looking for space.
The organizations listed below (some in operation serving Stamford kids for 60+ years) recognize that this is a door that needs to be kept shut....or it can never be closed again.
Today a few hours a week in one sport-tomorrow another sport and another business.
Left behind will be Stamford kids whose families can't afford $3,000 + per year to play and kids who are not the elite player and will eventually have no where to play in some sports because the nonprofits which have served them for so long are increasingly undermined and the businesses don't care about them.

You have the power in your hands to fight back!
If you are a Stamford resident or taxpayer, 18 years old or older, then sign the petition which you can link to here:

Now don't stop...get your spouse, your parents, your family members, your neighbors, your coworkers etc to add their name to the petition.
We have the power to show the Board of Education members that we feel very strongly that their field allocation policy needs to be changed to be like that of the Recreation Department. That policy prevents businesses from undermining youth nonprofits.
Thousands upon thousands of Stamford kids have benefited from these leagues over decades. Don't allow that great tradition to end while you had the power to prevent it from happening.
Take the three minutes needed and send a message!!
